How to create a hygge lifestyle with SSKEIN

Given the amount of time we're spending at home these days, there are more reasons to create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere.

To escape into a world of relaxation and be present with yourself and loved ones. Let us take you into Sskein's world of luxury comfort with curated items from our collection and things we covet to help you create "Hygge Lifestyle"!

 But first......

What is hygge?

The word hygge, (pronounced hue-guh) - "is a Danish word used to describe a quality of coziness and comfort that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being", according to the dictionary."Hygge is about an atmosphere and an experience,"

Meik Wiking , CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen

, explains. "It is about being with the people we love. A feeling of home. A feeling that we are safe."
There's a reason why the Danes are considered the most happiest people on the planet.
So why not follow on their way of life, and introduce hygge into our daily life.

How to create a hygge lifestyle?

As much as its a word to describe a feeling, we want to enhance it by creating a warm and pleasant environment with things we love.

THE SPACE

Pick a favorite space in your home where you like to relax, whether it's on a couch by the fireplace, a corner next to the window or your own bed. Surround yourself with items that makes you feel content.

Here are a few suggestions.....

COZY UP

ClothesLounge in the most comfortable clothes you can find. May we suggest our Wrap Neck Jumpsuit made in sustainably sourced baby alpaca. Constructed with a layer of pima cotton inside the garment for extra comfort and warmth.
Throws - Enjoy a guilty pleasure book and wrap yourself with our newest addition of baby alpaca Woven Throws from our home collection. Choose from the Gradient Weave Throw to Classic Macro Plaid. Swaddling with each one is like getting a hug from an alpaca.
Pillows - There's never enough pillows. We love the ones from Coterie of Brooklyn New York, in both design aesthetics to the small batch make from the US, focusing in quality

SET THE MOOD

Candles - Dim The Lights. 85% Danes says hygge won't be complete without candles. I can't agree more! You will find a scented candle in every room of my house to help ease into relaxation. Some of my favorite scents are from Lulumierea Seattle based women-owned company.

Room Mist - Estrella another Seattle based company offers six different room mists all naturally scented with essential oils. We're digging the Grapefruit Vanilla in case you were wondering.

Tunes - The right music always help set the mood. Check out Hygge Vibes a curated mix of my favorite tunes to help you kick start some chill time. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

LET THERE BE CAKE!

Cake is considered the most hygge food for the Danes. One of my favorite local bakeries that ships nationwide is All Purpose Cake Co. They sell the most "healthy" and decadent gluten and dairy free desserts. Their most recent flavor "The Hug Cake" is perfect for the occasion, with flavor of "chocolate hazelnut layers filled with creamy espresso buttercream.  It evokes the feeling of being snuggled in your pajamas under your warm blanket.." Yes please!

Being home full-time these day, I am constantly making home improvements, from our upcoming kitchen renovation to sprucing up our summer deck. Come winter, all I'm craving for are snuggles with the family and a space where I can be safe. And my home does just that!
While I just scrape the surface of creating a hygge space, most importantly I hope to continue the practice of living it. Surround myself with happy things, maintain a slower lifestyle and to give/receive a bountiful of positive vibes.
Care to join me!

Why I chose alpaca as our primary fiber?

About eight years ago, I was first introduced to alpaca fiber by a Peruvian factory. At the time I have only heard about the fiber, but never felt nor worn a sweater made out of it. Well into our ...
